The Defiance Active Initiative

Sponsored By

Effective, September 1st, RBC will be donating one penny for every kilometre logged by residents of Chatham-Kent. The money raised from this program will be donated to the Defiance Youth Program, a joint venture between the Defiance Running Club, Chatham-Kent Public Health and the United Way.

Kilometers can be achieved by walking, jogging, and/orrunning. We also welcome anyone with a physical impairment that may wish to join us with a hand-cycle or a wheelchair. Kilometers may be achieved on a treadmill or an elliptical machine, but our preference is for everyone to be active outdoors whenever possible.

There is no cost to participate in our program. Simply friend any member of the Defiance executive (see our contact page) on Facebook and you will be invited to our Defiance Active Initiative page within 24 hours. There, you will find a running log with an alphabetical list of participants. Find your name, scroll over to the date you were active and log your distance in kilometres. The running log automatically saves, and adds your data to your running total (yes pun intended).

Our immediate goal is 100,000 kilometres ($1,000.00) , but our long term goal is 1,000,000 kilometres and beyond. With 11,000 elementary students in Chatham-Kent, our youth program has the potential to grow exponentially, so this funding will be instrumental in our program's success.

Spread the word. Help us help our youth, one step at a time.
